   A painter, sculptor, university teacher and writer. She has been living in Cancún since 1992 and has been a professor at La Salle Cancun University since then.

   At the age of 13, Marien became a pupil of master painter Gonzalo López Heredia, who introduced her to drawing and painting. Two years later she is awarded with the second place of the national art competition Vocación (Secretaría de Educación Pública SEP, 1968).




   The next two years she attended classes at Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado “La Esmeralda” (National school of painting, sculpture and engraving). Although an artist, she became a preschool teacher.




   During 1977-78 she attended drawing and painting classes with master painter José Cutberto Galván. As member of his workshop, she participated in collective exhibitions (Museo de la Cultura Tlatilco, 1977). In the next year, she is awarded with the first prize at the short story competition La Historia que soñé (Certamen Activa-XEW Radio, 1978), so a third calling was heard. In 1988, Marien started her major in Human Sciences, at the Centro Universitario de Integración Humanística (formerly called ASEC Sor Juana). She won the first prize for an essay (Sociedad Cultural Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, 1990), a mention in Spain (XXVIII Edition of the Competition Cuentos Lena, Prize Pola de Lena, Asturias, 1992), and also published articles in Foto Zoom and Uno Más Uno.




   After graduating, Marien moved to Cancún, where she began to work as university professor of humanistic subjects: literature, art, philosophy and history. She supervised literary workshops and continued her artistic works independently. Also started a research on a new method of teaching, named Workshop in Humanities, winning second place in PREMIO FIMPES 1996. She was Humanities Head Director at ULSA Cancún since 1997 until 2016. As a writer, Marien  got first prize in the short story competition Como el mar que regresa (Casa de Cultura, Cancún, 2000)



    In 2005, a cancer forced her to rest. This allowed her to step up the production of her artistic works. In addition, she started her master’s degree in Human Studies (MEH, Universidad Virtual del Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, ITESM). She participated in the international exhibition Oncology on Canvas, (England, 2006), and other collective exhibitions in Cancún (Fundación Oasis 2008, Cafebrería el Pabilo 2008, 2009). Marien organized the collective exhibition Vivencias (Universidad La Salle, 2010), to support the organization against cancer Grupo Desafío, and participated in several artistic events to support the same cause (Arte en Rosa, 2010)




   Once she won her battle against cancer, Marien returned to the Humanities department at ULSA Cancún. In 2012 she finished her master’s degree in Humanistic Studies and presented an essay with the new investigations on the Workshop in Humanities. This essay is awarded with the first place in PREMIO FIMPES 2012.




Marien has organized three personal exhibitions of Paintings, Sculptures, Installations, Bas-Reliefs, Polyptychs and Artistic objects for the Library of La Salle Cancun University (Instalación Sor Juana 2000, Sor Juana, Música y Caracolas 2014, Ángeles y Sirenas 2015).




 She has worked as journalist for different newspapers in Cancún, has participated as an essayist for the cultural magazine Tropo a la Uña (1993-2016). Lately, she participated in the 3D Visual Arts Exhibition at La Casa de la Cultura, in Cancún.





On following her artistic and academic endeavors, she has given presentations in national and international forums.
